T.O. is K.O.
Terrell Owens is definitely down for the count. If anyone saw his apology on ESPN today, they would have to say that T.O. is at least hanging by a thread.
Make no mistake, T.O. is scared. He is scared for about 6 million dollars per season. That is the amount that T.O. has suddenly realized is at risk. It never occurred to him that he might step over a line, and that the Philadelphia Eagles might bite. One could easily view the Eagle teeth marks on Owens during today's press conference.
Sure, T.O. will rebound next season with another NFL team, but his new contract will be for far less than his current contract; plus his new contract will no doubt be laced with so many moral clauses that we may actually experience the altruistic T.O. that he claims to be. Maybe, but I would not bet on it.
Sometimes I wonder, being from a team that had Steve Young and Jerry Rice on it, if T.O. holds other players to that type of standard? Even though, T.O. has not won jack in his professional career. However in his twisted mind he may think that playing with Hall of Fame players earns oneself an automatic spot in the Hall, and that everyone else should adhere to his mystical talents and football know-how.
Today's public apology by T.O.,with his agent Drew Rosenblum by his side, reminded me of the day that Latrell Spreewell issued an apology for choking P.J. Carlisimo, with former super agent Johnny Cochran, by his side. What is sad about the comparison though is that Spreewell was a thug, and T.O. by his own right is probably a stand up guy outside of the NFL. However, today's apology also reminded me of when Pete Rose admitted to gambling on baseball. The only reason for remorse, then and now, are financial ones.
T,O., you are going to have the rest of the year and perhaps the first quarter of next year to think of your past and future. If you don't want to be remembered like Rose & Spreewell, I suggest you honor your next contract, collect the 4 - 6 million dollars you will have earned, play with the diligence that we've witnessed, and only say nice things about your quarterback.
